Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Analysis of the nature, distribution and contents of shafts, pits and wells of an apparent votive and ritual import in Britain leads to the conclusion that they were particularly manifestations of Belgic British religious belief, the underlying mythology being common to the whole Celtic world but receiving individual and striking material expression in the Belgic areas of Britain. These sites, with associated structures, may then be regarded as the true sanctuaries of the Belgic Britons, with possible direct Druidic associations, at which ritual of a powerful and elaborate nature was practised.
