SN 820074. During reassessment of the 1875 find its location was more precisely discovered by fieldwork. The thirty-five pieces are catalogued; some are obviously Roman, others obviously native British, and it is argued that the remainder are also probably native pieces. A date in mid-1st century would fit all of them. The presence of waste and worn objects identifies this as a workshop hoard, deposited perhaps not far from the smith's own establishment. Deposition by Roman troops is ruled out. | ||
