Nash-Williams' corpus forms the basis for an intensive study of the area richest in stones (roughly old Pembrokeshire). Irish and non-Irish features of inscribed stones (Group 1) are discussed and mapped. Some additions and deletions are listed for cross-decorated stones (Group 2). Cross types are mapped and their affinities and date-range considered. Sites of stones and churches are plotted, and inscribed (5th-6th centuries AD) and cross-carved stones are found to exhibit different distribution patterns. Sites where later stones are concentrated often important in later ecclesiastical history, like St David's, may not have originated early, while some sites important in 5th and 6th centuries may not have survived. Sites where stones attest Early Christian activity are listed under the headings Churches, Cemeteries, Earthworks and Other Sites. AH | ||||
