Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Highlights issues exposed by the unexpected discovery by the Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust of a 15th century ship during a watching brief in Newport. Once the waterlogged anaerobic environment of sites such as this is disturbed, reburial and preservation in situ are no longer an option. Questions raised include whether measures should be taken to avoid the unintentional disturbance of waterlogged finds in development work, and whether it is realistic to expect a single organisation to fund the entire programme of on-site and post-excavation work required for a discovery of this kind.
