Describes the key elements of an ongoing campaign against proposed development close to the ramparts of Old Oswestry Hillfort in Shropshire. The weight given to heritage protection in the National Planning Policy Framework (2012), which streamlined existing guidance, is discussed; although there is a presumption in favour of 'sustainable development', the Hands Off Old Oswestry Hillfort campaigning group is clear that the setting of a monument of the significance of Old Oswestry is protected by law.
