Abstract:
Describes a pyramid-shaped lead object bearing Christian motifs (including human figures and a chi-rho) that was found by chance in a field near Lode (Cambridgeshire). An iron lug, now heavily corroded, was attached to the apex. The designs are paralleled on lead tanks, the Christian wall-paintings at Lullingston villa, and stone artefacts from Chedworth villa. It may have had a religious function or have been a steelyard weight. A mid fourth-century date is likely.
