Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A study of the sculptural stonework of the chapel demonstrates that the carving of the doorways is contemporary with the building's construction (after the fire of AD~1184). This contradicts an accepted view that the doorways were carved much later. The Lady Chapel is thought to have influenced masons working on other British churches. An appendix reports on `Observations on the third and fifth orders of the north doorway' (166). | |||||||
