Abstract:
The excavations were centred on the ruined chapel and adjacent area of the cemetery, which included a number of rock-cut graves. `The human remains' are examined by G Grainger (90--3): radiocarbon dates for three skeletons are in the range AD~960--1185. A survey of the structure of `St Peter's Church' by T W Potter, R D Andrews & R C Anderson (95--104) was undertaken using photographic techniques. `The documentary evidence' is considered by J A Tuck (104--5). A hogback tomb, a bird, and a cross are among `The sculpture' discussed by R J Cramp (106--17). Description of painted wall plaster from the earliest chapel phase includes `The wall plaster: decoration and lettering' by John Higgitt (118--20) and `Analysis of the plaster' by Andrew Middleton (120--2). A Saxon grave find, `The bone comb' is discussed by Alison Cook & Colleen Batey (122--4). `The other finds' are briefly reported on by David R M Gaimster, D Higgins, B Nenk & G Andrews (124--5).
