Abstract:
The earliest defences (stone-fronted rampart and ditch system) date to late 2nd/early 3rd century; later developments included the placing of interval towers and the digging of a new, wider ditch. The Roman defences continued in use in the medieval period, with an extension to Brayford Pool in 13th century. Fragmentary information about occupation within the defences, from Flavian times on, was also recovered. Au(abr)
