Two forerunners to Stukeley's sketch of the Coddington bronze bucket of the Irish-British series have been located in the James Theobald MSS. The more complete, and therefore earlier, of these two sketches shows the base with eight T-shaped strengthening plates, and also shows the staple rings hanging inside the rim, thus resolving the apparent anomaly of Stukeley's sketch. | ||||
