Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A re-examination of Fowler Aa, B, and C penannulars leads to a reassessment of omega brooches at Numantia. Particular types of penannulars could begin before 75 BC, certainly before 27, and they continue through Augustan-Claudian times with Aucissa and 'Hod Hill'-type brooches. Certain types in pre-Roman Britain, and two groups of factory-made brooches found only in earliest RB, are contemporary with early omega brooches here. None of these forms run into the Flavian period, still less into the 2nd century. Old finds of these early types from the Limes forts are to be attributed to Germani or Celts well before the Province of Upper Germany was formed. Au(abr) | |||||
