Reports current proposals to improve the setting of Stonehenge, particularly events resulting from a Planning Conference held in September 1995. The site's guardian agencies -- EH and NT -- put forward a proposal to close the existing road routes and construct a 4 km tunnel under the site. The idea has been endorsed by government; however, the cost -- somewhere in excess of £200 million -- remains an issue. |
