Presents three perspectives on the RAE. Firstly, a reprint of the Society of Antiquaries of London's 1995 Presidential Anniversary Address `The benefits of assessment, and some risks' by Barry Cunliffe (251) where, despite warnings against allowing market forces to predominate, the galvanising effects the Exercise has had on the publication and research structure are welcomed. `Democracy and peer assessment' by Anthony Harding (252--3) considers the way in which RAE assessors come to be selected, whilst `Reflections of an assessor' by David Austin (253--5) provides a critique of the RAE comparing it to the Welsh Teaching Quality Assessment. |
