Examines the duration of breastfeeding using bone stable isotopes in infant remains from the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy, North Yorkshire. The results of the study suggests cessation of breastfeeding between one an two years of age. Comparison with medieval textual sources suggests that recommendations of physicians regarding infant feeding may not have influenced common practice in this period. | |||||
