Abstract:
A 14C date of 1380 + 90 BC was obtained from wood recovered from the lower fill of the shaft. From the middle fill came a portion of a Deverel-Rimbury barrel urn. 14C dates from comparable sites are quoted, and other man-made shafts, together with natural ones containing human remains, are cited and their dating discussed.
