Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The pollen from a cist burial at Ashgrove, Fife contained exceptionally high quantities of lime and meadowsweet; this could be due to the original presence of mead, perhaps poured or spilled in the grave. This theory was supported by a test analysis of material remaining within the associated beaker. Certainty is impossible in the absence of further suitable samples, but fresh evidence is sought from excavators of BA burials. See also Nature, 276, 1978, 443, for comment by P D Moore on this article; he supports the claim for this as the earliest evidence for honey in Britain, and believes it could have been produced in Scotland at that period. | ||||||||
