Abstract:
A significant plateau for the 500 years centred on the mid 10th millennium bp, noted by Becker and other workers from dendrochronological 14C work, has been confirmed by a series of 14C dates from Trench VP85A at Star Carr. The implications are that relative ages cannot be determined for levels or sites which lie within this half millennium, that the Preboreal period must be increased by several hundred years, and that the duration of the 'early Mesolithic' must also be extended by a similar amount.
