Contra Greeves (90/25), the Somerset Levels and the Fens must be counted among the successful instances of preservation of archaeological - and natural history - evidence. The failures must be laid at the door of society, not archaeologists. Greeves responds that the recent record of destruction of SSSIs and scheduled monuments is a depressing one, and that the need is to educate the voting public now (see also 90/982). |
