Abstract:		 A case study demonstrating the role of geophysical survey techniques following the introduction of DoE guidelines (PPG 16) that emphasised the need for pre-consent assessment and evaluation of archaeological sites. The development proposal affected a 23ha area located to the east of Bedford. A field evaluation combining examination of air photos, field walking, magnetometer survey, and excavation identified IA and RB rural occupation in an area that saw activity from the Neolithic onwards.
