Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Discusses anatomical remains found in the 1753--1845 burial ground of Newcastle Infirmary which suggest that dissection of bodies was common practice before the law changed in 1832 allowing post-mortem procedures to be carried out on bodies other than those obtained from execution sites. Also noted were the abundance of amputated limbs removed as a result of diseases such as TB and syphilis and the inference is drawn that the patients survived these operations. | ||||
