Abstract:
The 2010 Marsh Archaeology Award was a joint enterprise between the Council for British Archaeology and the Marsh Christian Trust. This article outlines the criteria against which entries for the award were judged and describes the two highly commended projects (the Northwick Manor Community Project in north Worcester and the Gloucester City Council Heritage Service and Clutch Clinic Community Group) and the winner (the Dartmoor Cairn Project). The award is seen as a mechanism for promoting 'best practice' in projects involving local communities and voluntary groups in stewardship of the archaeological heritage. Such involvement will continue to increase when proposed reforms to the planning system give local neighbourhoods a stronger voice in managing the character of their area. LD
