Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Responds to an article in British Archaeology No. 122 in which it is suggested that a fall in the number of archaeological sites scheduled by English Heritage is a cause for concern. The background to listing and scheduling is outlined and it is noted that the rate of scheduling has once more increased. Recent actions to ensure continued progress for heritage protection include: creation of the National Heritage List for England; improvements to thousands of older scheduling records; the availability of better guidance on designation approaches; the launch of the National Heritage Protection Plan; and new projects that will likely lead to further schedulings and better appreciation of the subjects under study.
