Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Discusses the ongoing debate on the future of the marble sculptures that were taken from the Parthenon in Greece two hundred years ago and are now in the British Museum. Makes particular reference to the works of Christopher Hitchens, who died recently but addressed the issue over several decades in a number of articles and interviews and a book. It is concluded that the displays of pieces in Athens and London empower each other and that the respective museums should join in research, conservation, publications and exhibitions. LD |
