Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Reports that three of the four largest archaeological organisations in the UK are now led by women, and that the fourth also was until recently. The historical and present-day gender balance in different areas of archaeology is then discussed; although there is still a bias towards men in academia, there are signs of change at some of the leading societies, where senior support roles are now held by women. In contrast with the wider business world, where there is a heavy bias towards male chief executives, commercial archaeology is a relatively young profession which does not feature male-dominated companies with long histories.
