Abstract:		 Reports on the discovery by the Colchester Archaeological Trust in 2013 of two graves dating from the late 1st century BC or the early 1st century AD. These were revealed during a watching brief on development works at a golf club near Colchester, Essex, at the known site of a square enclosure thought to date to the Iron Age. The burial pits suggest that the enclosure defined a mortuary area. Iron Age funerary enclosures are rare in Britain and may indicate links with northern France where comparable enclosures are found. However, five were excavated in the 1990s at a site 4km south-west of the new finds, at Stanway. Although apparently less rich than those found in the 1990s, the burials may represent more signs of a wealthy local elite that witnessed the arrival of the Roman army. LD
