Delwar Hussein describes his experience of working as a volunteer on an archaeological excavation at his local mosque in Southwark, London. Having never had anything to do with archaeology before, he learned about all aspects of the investigation process, including the preparation work involved, the physical labour of digging, principles of stratigraphy, and what happens to finds after excavation. He also learned about the history of London, which he had not previously engaged with. LD |
