Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Greg Bailey reviews two recent television programmes, both of which he found rewarding due to their erudite presenters as well as the depth and imagination of their archive research. The Battle for Stonehenge: A Culture Show Special, broadcast on BBC2, was presented by art critic Alistair Sooke, who discussed the extraordinary status accorded to Stonehenge, and competing claims to its access and varieties of celebration. Opening the Palace Doors, the last of three parts of Majesty & Mortar: Britain's Great Palaces, was broadcast on BBC4. Presented by architectural historian Dan Cruikshank, this also dealt with a changing public relationship to our great national monuments. LD |
