Abstract:
This article discusses some reforms to the planning system in England that have recently been proposed and which give cause for concern with regard to the historic environment. These are: key changes to wording that relates to the circumstances in which the National Amenity Societies are notified of applications for consent to demolish all or part of a listed building; the extension of permitted development rights, affecting building proposals which do not require planning permission; and the discharge of planning conditions.
