Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Extensive excavations were undertaken at the site of an early Anglo-Saxon settlement at West Stow, Suffolk, between 1965 and 1973, and the results revolutionised understanding of the design and construction of timber buildings of that time. Once the excavations had finished, an exercise in experimental archaeology began that is still ongoing: to date, ten Anglo-Saxon buildings have been reconstructed on the site. This article reviews the original excavations and considers what has been learned from the reconstructions. LD | |||
