Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Considers the possible implications for archaeology of recent, contentious, studies in historical linguistics. The postulation of new, larger, linguistic macro-families could imply contact over a far wider area during prehistory than was previously thought. The practical mechanism behind this contact may be connected to the spread of agriculture. The potential of recent advances in DNA studies to measure the genetic distance between individuals and groups may eventually be employed to support parallel hypotheses in these areas. IH |
