Abstract:
Planks from a cesspit lining (dated c. 1270) found during excavations in Parliament Square are identified as reused ship's timbers. The planks are thought to come from trees grown in eastern England and felled in the mid thirteenth century; however, constructional details suggest that the ship was constructed like the cogs associated with Hanseatic League merchants.
