Abstract:		 Explores the use of quartz as a raw material in the early prehistoric period in Ireland. The basis of the research is the development, through experimental knapping, of an analytical framework for quartz working in Ireland. This framework is tested by a detailed analysis of later Mesolithic quartz assemblages.
