Abstract:
A collection of papers arising from a 1988 seminar held in South Africa. The papers tackle a series of issues including how measurements of the isotopic composition of carbon and nitrogen in bones can be quantitatively translated into dietary composition, whether the carbon derived from the mineral phase of fossilised calcified tissue provides a reliable palaeodietary signal, and the effect of diagenesis on trace elements thought to be patterned in natural foodwebs, and on strontium isotopes.
