Abstract:
Pollen analyses from the fills and floors of four recently excavated burial cairns are presented. A distinctive pollen assemblage, rich in pollen of Filipendula (meadowsweet or dropwort), is seen at each site. These results show that earlier analyses of similar deposits, which also showed enhanced percentages of Filipendula, are not untypical. It is argued that this pollen assemblage is due to human action and possibly a result of the use of flowers in the burial ritual.
