Abstract:
SU 914687. Excavation of one quadrant of a previously robbed wide-bermed barrow threatened by hospital development revealed enough of interest to bring about preservation of the site. The core was formed of unusually large turves obtained from the line of the ditch. Analysis of the buried soil pollen indicated a long period ofhuman interference (?starting in Mesolithic) culminating in a cultivation phase which may correspons with possible furrows (?spade or ?rope-traction ard) in the old ground surface. Finds were limited to fire-cracked flints and one flint artefact: a single C14 date lay in 15th century bc.
