Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Description of a large rectangular dressed limestone slab bearing an image of a sheela na gig, found in the demolition debris of the enclosure wall of a school built in 1842 in Tullaroan, Co Kilkenny. The slightly damaged image depicts the frontal view of a nude female in false relief, with a punch-dressed background, and is the fourth example known from Co Kilkenny. Concludes that while there are other possible explanations, it is probably a fertility symbol. An appendix lists `The other examples of fertility figures from Co Kilkenny' (1030). | ||
