Abstract:		 Excavations in the Irishtown district of Kilkenny revealed evidence of thirteenth century land reclamation, a medieval cobblestone-floored oven with associated flagstone-paved work surface, a poorly preserved circa seventeenth century brick cellar with a fireplace and mortar floor, and a pit containing post medieval pottery. A limestone rubble boundary wall and a cobbled surface (yard or pathway?) are probably associated with houses that stood at the site until recently. Finds were dominated by local medieval pottery with English and French imports. Two floor tile fragments, two medieval iron masonry nails and some sixteenth-seventeenth century imported pottery sherds were also found. Concludes that the oven was wood-burning and that a period of disuse followed its abandonment in the thirteenth or fourteenth century.
