Abstract:
Historical account of a private oratory with a north-south alignment which formed part of the west wing of Jenkinstown House, Co Kilkenny. It was built by the Catholic Bryan family during the Penal Era in the eighteenth century. After the house was sold in 1936, the oratory, which was renovated and enlarged in 1945, served as a chapel of ease until 1983 when it was replaced by a new larger church built nearby. The oratory is now used as a Scout hall. Some genealogical details of the Bryan family and their relatives, the Bellews, are also provided.
