Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Describes several methods of assessing the performance of ancient boats, including the experimental building and trial of replicas. The method of using hydrostatic curves and speed-related coefficients is argued as often the most cost-effective, and is used to assess the Hasholme boat of c 300BC. It could carry twenty crew, or 5.5 tonnes in only 75cm of water, with a useful speed potential for inland or (possibly) estuarine waters. Au(amp). (See also 88/1664.) |
