Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
In antiquity the ship's master worked by rule of thumb to ensure safe freeboard and adequate stability for his craft. It is possible that part-cargoes of stone or heavy metals could remain in a ship as ballast, or as compensatory low stowage factor materials, until another similar consignment was obtained. Was the Langdon Bay, Dover hoard such a collection, assembled over time and space? Similar considerations may apply to Greek pottery in the Mediterranean. | |||
