Abstract:

Reports the results of a building recording and excavation. The first evidence for occupation was in the Saxo-Norman period, but the main phase of settlement was in the late thirteenth--fourteenth century, when a post-in-trench building was erected. This site appeared to have been abandoned in the late medieval period, but was reoccupied in the first half of the seventeenth century, when a timber-framed barn was built. This still survives. The barn was floored in and converted to domestic use in the eighteenth century, when a brick-built house was added to its north end.
