Abstract:

Reports investigations in the vicinity of the house known as The Priory, which is situated within the precinct of Wherwell Abbey. To the north of the house evidence of a cemetery and also of substantial buildings was identified. These buildings are now known to be associated with the claustral range of the abbey church. To the south of the house a previously unrecorded stream course with adjacent medieval yard surfaces was recorded. This area is close to a recently identified medieval building, and geophysical survey has located the remains of other structures in the vicinity. It is believed that the structures date to a period of major renovation and expansion of the Abbey complex during the mid- to late-thirteenth century AD. Includes separately authored reports on
