Abstract:
Excavation revealed medieval occupation deposits dated to the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, including insubstantial remains of two buildings, possibly outbuildings, several pits, hearths and a well. One large depression containing three stack-tile hearths may have been a working hollow. A small amount of Late Saxon pottery was all residual in later features. The site appears to have been abandoned by the end of the thirteenth century. Small assemblages of medieval pottery, tile, animal bone and plant remains comprise most of the significant finds. The site may have been residential, or could have been a working area with ancillary structures, hearths and rubbish pits; there was nothing to indicate any specialized function.
