Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The Bern Conference papers are published under the main headings of natural 14C variations (current themes being solar and geomagnetic variations and the tying down of floating tree-ring series); man-made 14C variations; techniques; and dating of various materials (eg shells, or bone apatite). A D Hewson and R Burleigh, dating consecutive single rings of a 4000-year old pine from County Antrim (pp 278-85), found the 14C variation between individual rings was not statistically significant; hence the Grimes Graves antler results must be anomalous and need further explanation. G W Pearson (337-45) discusses high precision dating by liquid scintillation counting applied to 14C timescale calibration. R Burleigh briefly summarizes the proceedings in Antiquity, 54, 1980, 135-7. | |||
