Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The castle near Bungay has two baileys, a gatehouse, part-curtain wall, and remains of a keep. The detailed description of 1562 is translated into a possible plan, with further details added from an 1865 map. The castle probably began in 14th century as a secular mansion and was certainly for status, not defence. One ruined building is provisionally identified as the 'cynnehalle', possibly a royal lodging. | ||||||
