Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Examines several elements in Co Clare place-names which seem to be Anglicised forms relating to landscape features. These include for example: aill, bun, crag, curragh, drum (drom, -rim), illuan, inish, knock, lough, maghera, moy, poul, slieve, and tullagh. Each case is illustrated with simple examples drawn from Co Clare townland names. Most of these terms are found to have no specific geomorphic significance, although they are considered to contribute a generalised view of landscape and draw attention to aspects that were considered of consequence in days gone by. | ||||
