Abstract:
Mixed and finely divided materials, difficult to identify by normal mineralogical tests, can profitably be examined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Some results are reported from West Runton, Panningridge and Waltham Abbey. TGA can indicate the presence in mixed samples of slag and hammer scale on the one hand and iron ores on the other; and it can discriminate between hydrated, carbonate, magnetic and haematitic iron ores. It can also distinguish oxidised and sulphide copper minerals and semi-products. Au(amp)
