Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The surviving ruins of Witley Court are of considerable historical interest insofar as the surviving structure incorporates several distinct periods of construction, encompassing the work of seventeenth-, eighteenth-, and nineteenth-century architects and craftspeople. The resulting mix of styles is difficult to decipher, though the present ruinous state of the building enables the various periods of construction to be identified. There is an appendix detailing rooms destroyed in the 1937 fire, and rooms omitted from the fire-damage inventories (303). |
