Abstract:
Records the finds of early medieval pottery, bones and a quern fragment in the garden of a terraced house built in 1895 on the site of earlier nineteenth century cottages. Domesday evidence was examined in light of the finds and may indicate the presence of a larger, much earlier building in the area. There are separate sections on: `The pottery' by Maureen Mellor, (44); `Faunal remains' by Julie Hamilton (44--5); and `The quern fragment' by Fiona Roe (45--6).
