Abstract:
An article concerning the impact at grassroots level of the development of architectural taste in the nineteenth-century church. Particular reference is made to the Rev. William Boyd, vicar of Arncliffe from 1835 to 1893, and Rev. William Stavert, rector of Burnstall from 1888 to 1929. The ubiquity of Ecclesiological values is attested in the buildings themselves and in written testimony of the individuals concerned and the contemporary local reaction.
